Fashion 101

As you know, Eric’s got quite the wardrobe.  Last week, he showed up at FOX studios to tape The Strategy Room — moments before the show went live, I received a text from him: Strategy Room set has been changed … which means an hour of my sneakers on air!

Curious to see what that looks like?  Ladies and Gentlemen, this is what style looks like.

What does this guy do? Pay you to write about him? Moron wears sneakers on national tv?

    Ellis H.

Hilarious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Love that he lets you make fun of him.

    Yan K.

I saw him that day. Was wondering. Very funny. And I agree with with Ellis.

Must be a great corporate culture if he approves postings like this one (assuming he looks at them). And Angry Alex, I highly doubt that if Yaverbaum was paying for his staff to write complimentary kiss ass posts, this would be one of them.

Clever. Funny. I want to work for a boss who wears sneakers on national tv.

He knows. Yaverbaum soooooooooo orchestrates everything. He just tweeted this blog. Does Mary Clare even exist?

And I think he looks kinda cool as annoying as he is.

    PR Maven

He tweeted it. He knows. Don’t be dumb. He’s not.

And I begrudgingly agree, it’s a cool look.

It’s cool to wear sneakers on national tv? Not really. He looks like an idiot. I just un-followed him on tweeter.

  8. 8
    Brandie Chastin

He probably doesn’t see his tweets either. Phoney baloney and dumb.

    Damien W.

I love this guy. And I couldn’t care less if he looks at this blog or tweets himself. Hip. Fun to follow. And I bet Doug is from Boise. Weanie.

I’m done following his tweets. Fathead who pays people to write about his obvious mistakes.

Can anyone say uptight. I dig the look.

    Tammy L.

    I’m with Sarah.

Sheeeeesh. I’ve never gotten 10 comments to a blog posting in my life. Mary Clare probably dresses him for her blog.

    Lauren.

Error in judgement or dumb mistake. But to tweet about it and have a blog about it is offensive to every media trainer in history. I’m done following him on twitter.

Lauren needs a hobby. As this appears to be a g rated blog, I won’t make any suggestions.

    Loser.

This is more debate than congress has on any given day. You think he may know that? We’re all on his site. Vintage PR. Is Mary Clare real is all I want to know?

    Gary Anderson

Whoopdeedo. All I know is I keep watching and learning. Who gives a F-ing thought to this sort of stuff. Somehow he (or Mary Clare if she is real) tweet us on over.

Not sure what to make of this, but I looked. And I kinda like the look myself (not to be repeated to my boss).

I read his books. Watch him on TV. Follow him all over the social networks. He gets traction. He also posted this on his Facebook and his Friendfeed wall. And here we all are debating nothing. I wish I could peddle nothing the way he does. However, I’d probably do it in shoes.

  21. 21
    Courtney

Fascinating. Bet he got a sneaker deal going on the side.

He fired me in 1989 and it made my career. I’ve been following him ever since and he really makes it easy. Or should I say “Mary Clare” does.

  22. 22
    Dee

That’s very funny. He trained me many moons ago and never mentioned sneakers.

  23. 23
    Janet R.

Honest mistake or NYC cool. I’d never do that, but I’m not that cool. Maybe he is? Or just pretty cute.

  24. 24
    K. Tillman

Hey Janet (or Mary Clare)- DUMB.

  25. 25
    Penny

Oh my. What a scandal. I’d like to know his relationship with Mary Clare (if she is even real). There’s the real scandal. Enquiring minds want to know. And he’s not that cute Penny.

Yaverbaum has an uncanny knack for getting people talking. I’m sure he wore the sneakers on purpose and then paid his girlfriend to write the blog.

  27. 27
    Tommy B.

Sad commentary on our sorry ass industry. But I did click on the link. I should have been a dentist.

  28. 28
    Valerie Freedman

What’s so sad about it? A fascinating peak into communication all about zippo. And this agency or at east Yaverbaum and his paid shills have done this for decades.

    Regina

he told me he was married. i did him.

  30. 30
    Regina

    and not to marie-clare

  31. 31
    Alexa

    Hark. Poor Mary Clare.

You bunch of boneheads. Read about him. While he has a rather large ego, he also professes his love for his wife absolutely any and everywhere. I’m a “friend” of his on Facebook, where he shares a lot (personal and processional). Im not going to defend him. I don’t really actually know him. But you can google him or be his friend on Facebook. He’s the last of a dying honorable breed of man. He has a wife who is very ill with MS, and Mr. Yaverbaum makes that a positive experience in raising money and bragging about his family and her. There is some love at first site video all over the internet which is pictures of their history all done for fundraising.

And Regina. Shucks. How did you ever figure out he was married. Such a secret written about in 1000 places or so. I’ll just let Regina have her stalking moment of glory. Enjoy.

  32. 32
    Shannon W.

This sounds like a sorority house filled with cats and one needy Regina.

  33. 33
    Ilana Abel

I’ve worked for Eric for a decade. He is the most honorable caring dedicated man I have ever met. I find some of these posts about him very offensive.

  34. 34
    Deana M.

Sounds like a threesome to me. Ilana-if you have worked for him for so long, I would imagine you learn to ignore the Regina’s of the world.

  35. 35
    darcy L.

Oh ladies please. Regina-lets see your pictures with your married lover and end the debate.

Mr. Yaverbaum has been a icon of our industry for as many years as I have been in it. I have enormous respect for him.

  36. 36
    erica m.

How’d this turn into a gossip blog? I love him! His television appearances are used by many of us in media training. Might skip using this one though.

As far as Regina who clearly wants a little attention- if you search around his site and google him, we’re all out. He has a seemingly fairytale marriage and family.

  37. 37
    Dede Longacker

When you don’t have your last name on a blog comment, you don’t deserve to even get posted. He guest lectured when I was at Harvard. I’ve read two of his books. I see him on tv all the time. I do what I do for a living because he inspired me. All the rest of this gossipy chatter is embarrassing to read.

  38. 38
    Ellen S.

Smokescreen alert. Mary Clare and Regina are probably friends!

  39. 39
    Damien W.

I met him in Vegas a couple years ago. He’s a lot more boring than you all seem to think and he goes to bed at 9:00. Love the sneakers. I am however relatively sure that “Mr. Honor” is paid by Nike to wear them. I do know that he used to be on their payroll.

  40. 40
    Lori Watkins

No last name on your post. NO credibility. I do not know him. But I have admired his work for years. If Mary Clare does in fact actually work for him. If she does in fact get to write whatever she wants. If she is in fact learning from him (no jokes Regina), then in our own litlte industry, she’s lucky.

  41. 41
    marnie owens

He’s hot. Love the look. Regina and Mary Clare should be proud.

Now that I’m through with the sarcasm part. You really should read about Yaverbaum. He does all sorts of wonderful work. I’m not sure if I hope he reads this blog and has the ability to take down all the posts or just never views the comments. They are very unprofessional and he has earned the right to a wee bit of respect.

But he is a handsome man. Even in his sneakers.

  42. 42
    Doug P.

OK. Clearly Marnie is a middle age prude. I’d bet the ranch on Yaverbaum and the mystery Mary Clare being an item. She has a few other posts about him that seem a little suspect.

Is there a single solitary person in this chain who knows them both?

(Oh and I do love Yaverbaums work too). Strictly professionally speaking.

  43. 43

Breaking news flash. I follow him on tweeter and guess who he got a very nice birthday gift for and tweeted about it. Who tweets about their birthday gifts unless _________________. You figure it out.

  44. 44
    Shannon Wright

This blog is a perfect example of why we don’t blog. Nonsense about nonsense. Anyone who knows the second coming of Ralph Lauren should call him and tell him to take all of this down. Silly.

(I agree about the last name. Use it when you comment or don’t comment)

  45. 45
    teresa makover

Poor souls. This is a lot like Page Six. I’m guessing that was not the goal.

  46. 46
    heidi l.

I follow Yaverbaum on multiple social networks. I marvel at his professional and personal life. No idea when the man sleeps. But now I’m wondering why him or his girlfriend aren’t shutting this conversation down. It’s a little mean spirited.

  47. 47
    Richard Larsen

    My guesses-

    1) Because he does not care
    2) Because its likely not true
    3) Because he must have some seriously thick skin over the years
    4) Because she probably is not even using her real name
    5) Because this isn’t Sixty MInutes

Or maybe he actually does not read his own supposed blog, twitter or Facebook.

  48. 48
    Brian B.

The video link isn’t even a good one. But this conversation or comments (whatever it is) is pathetic enough to be. To the newly famed Mary Clare-when you post a video, watch it yourself. You can’t even read whatever you have written on the screen. Or maybe your job is just to write. Then tell your video person please.

Everyone should drink their coffee now and go to their real jobs.

Here’s that video Alexa mentioned. It’s been forwarded to me twice:

That video sucks. You can not even read whatever attempt at humor is written on it.

I am a Supervisor at Ericho Communications (have worked for Eric for over 3 years now through 3 PR agencies) and I can tell you Mary Clare is a real person. She is a Media Strategist on our NY team (totally awesome!) and loves video producing.

Eric’s thick skin and sense of humor allows us to post anything we want want on this blog (serious or silly). It is a forum for us to post about practical tips, success stories, general information and a day in the life/agency gossip.

Eric didn’t intentionally wear sneakers on the set…he didn’t know they changed the set from the table to a coach. Mary Clare (all of us actually) found it so funny b/c in our media training (and we just did one last week), we always tell clients to wear shoes — since with TV you don’t know what the set is going to look like.

If you are interested, here is her bio (which is to the left of this blog under “The Authors”) http://erichopr.com/blog01/?page_id=2

She is also on Twitter at: @maryclarejensen.

What’s a coach? Video sucks and so does your editing.

Now let me guess, another supposed staffer jumps on and tells us why you weren’t alerted that spellcheck was not working.

  54. 54
    Dana Smithers

Why Reggie, I assume they were just hoping you could catch any spelling errors, ya know?
